Reasoned Rebellion

World Peace

So today was a bad day. I was going on one hour’s sleep, everything at work went wrong and responsibilities of life were thrusting down upon me harder than a Chippendale’s dancer at showtime. Then, I heard it. The sweet sound that is always welcome on a hot day in New York – the ice cream truck song.

I got my money ready and gladly said “chocolate cup, please!” and hurriedly took the treat back to my desk where I enjoyed every frigid spoonful melting in my mouth. My day was instantly better to the point where I can’t help but think that this phenomenon may be exploited to resolve global conflict. Think about it – if we gave everyone in the world just one free ice cream cone, we could end war as we know it. People would become increasingly amiable and understanding. Presidents, Prime Ministers and even dictators would sign peace treaties over some sprinkles and hot fudge.

And so, as I consume my last few bites of frozen happiness, I say to Congress – get rid of those tanks and invest in some ice cream trucks – destroy the guns and milk some cows – there is much work to be done!

About this blog's headline image: Ice cream was introduced to the United States by Quaker colonists who brought their ice cream recipes with them. Confectioners sold ice cream at their shops in New York and other cities during the colonial era. Ben Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson were known to have regularly eaten and served ice cream.
